BMVC’s annual Summer Concert took place on Saturday June 2nd in the wonderful St  Leonard’s and St Jude’s Church, Scawsby, Doncaster. With its cathedral like acoustics and modern interior the church is one of our favourite venues.

Essentially the choir took the part of support act to the amazing Polly Sedman.

Polly thrilled choir and audience alike with her beautiful and powerful soprano voice.

The choir performed well, although we were clearly not quite match fit in the first couple of numbers, Rachie and I Believe, and improved for A Thousand Years.

That all changed as the choir gained confidence, buoyed by Polly’s first spot.

A medley of songs from Paint your Wagon was followed by John Willard’s lovely rendition of Twelfth of Never.

The choir completed the first half with I Write The Songs, Nessun Dorma and, always a crowd pleaser, An American Trilogy.

The second half carried on with Saints Go Marching In , What Would I do Without My Music and my Heart Will Go On.

Polly returned to the stage with her second stunning spot, leaving the audience spellbound.

How did the choir follow that? With their version of The Rose, Up Where We Belong (first time out), and Love Is All Around from the film Four Weddings And A Funeral.

Paul Trow and Adrian Cattley then sang their latest duet Sunshine on Leith, a Proclaimers' classic. Special thanks to Matthew Trow for helping Paul and Adrian to learn this marvellous song, and our accompanist Mandy for playing so sensitively.

The concert closed with You Raise Me Up and a nostalgic medley of well known Al Jolson songs specially adapted for male voice choirs under the name Just Jolson.

Our thanks, as always, to Andris for his tireless hard work, Mandy our superb accompanist and the ladies who helped with ticket sales, tea and the raffle.

NEW VENTURE,  NEW VENUE, GREAT EVENING!

Saturday 23^rd June 2018 saw BMVC perform for the first time as guests of Castleford Male Voice Choir at the impressive St Giles Church in Pontefract, a new venue for us with a bright and cheery atmosphere, good acoustics and plenty of room.

Both choirs impressed with their own separate pieces, and joint numbers were well received.

Easing the burden on our (Joint) Musical Director, the pieces by the individual performers provided a refreshing change for choirs and audience alike.

Welcome refreshments at the end of the performances rounded off a very enjoyable evening, which hopefully will not be the last with the Castleford Male Voice Choir.
