Choir Swings with Doncaster Youth Jazz Band

Having appeared with the Doncaster Youth Stage Band before, the Choir were looking forward to an evening in the presence of very skilled young musicians.
John Ellis, the band leader, positively overflows with enthusiasm and it shows in the performance level as the youngsters wowed an appreciative audience with their upbeat and exciting repertoire. With numbers by Count Basie, Duke Ellington and many more, interspersed with an Adele number and countless solos, these up and coming musicians showed us that jazz is definitely a genre not to be ignored!

The ” men in black” we’re on tip-top form too, fluctuating between atmospheric numbers like “Anthem” and “An American Trilogy” to the silky smooth “Hallelujah” and “You Are So Beautiful”. The boys had the audience tapping their feet and hand clapping to ” Da Doo Ron Ron” and positively galloped through the tongue-twisting “Rhythm Of Life”.

All this in the amazing setting of the fully refurbished Bentley Pavillion, I for one can’t wait for the next time these two giants of local musical talent come together again!
