Reviews of recent performances

Concert in St John the Evangelist Church, Balby.

Saturday 15th March the choir sang to a small but very appreciative audience. In addition to a selection of some of this season's repertoire, we had a solo performances from Doug walton (My Way), Brian Harris (Almost Like A Song) and from two new soloists with the choir Matthew Cayton who sang Master Of The House, and Richard Hedgecock who sang You'll Never walk Alone from Carousel. Well done both of you for your first but certainly not last solo performances with the choir.

There were some particularly wonderful singing from the choir, especially in the quiet passages of When I Fall In Love and Softly As I Leave You. However one piece that should have special mention is our new favourite What Would I Do Without My Music. The front row of the baritones are still trying to work out how to get by without theirs.

Man of the match award is shared this week by Matthew and Richard.

Beauty And The Beast, Doncaster Civic Theatre saturday 6th March 2010

Although this wasn't a choir event, i felt because two of our members had major roles it should be re-viewed.

Matthew Cayton (Second Tenor), what can i say Matthew? A totally amazing performance as Lefou, a perfect partner for "Ghastly Gaston"! Whining, whinging and cowardly to excess....brilliant!! The song "Maison Des Lunes was, for me the best performed song of the show, well done Matthew.

Scott Bramley (The Wodge), that's Baritone for the un-iniated! A fantastic performance as Musical Director, really held everything together as tight as a drum. Scott was telling me that his orchestra were actually behind the stage in the scenery dump so he had to conduct via a television monitor!!

A really proffessional  show which was enjoyed by quite a number from B.M.V.C.

Well done to both of you. My favourite gag was, however, Cogsworth's "If it aint Baroque don't fix it!"

Concert at St Mary's Church Hall, Sprotborough

On Saturday 13th March 2010, The Choir presented their first performance of the year .The concert raised  £475 towards St. Mary's Church roof fund.

Due to unforseen circumstances, we were without our Musical Director and her deputy, (see injury List for details). Following his success at Doncaster Civic, Scott Bramley bravely stepped in to save the concert, (the next choice was yours truly, which as you might expect would have been disastrous!)So a massive thankyou to Scott.

We had solos by Doug Walton - Sunshine Of Your Smile, Brian Harris - I Believe That I'm Gonna Love You, Neil Birkin - How Great Thou Art, Brian Brumfitt - Bring Him Home and Dame featuring your chairman.

The concert also featured our first outing of I Hear Music But There's no one there.

A packed audience enjoyed a varied and entertaining show, and our thanks go to Betty Brockman and Vivienne Jenkinson for inviting and looking after us.

Thanks also to Maralyn Deakin and Margaret Edwards (raffle/c.d.sales) and Grace Walton (tickets).

In the absense of our Kate i would like to nominate Scott as Man of the Match.
